Gear Hire

The Mountain Club has a large range of gear available for hiring, this includes:

Climbing ropes, static ropes, harness's, chalk bags, quickdraws, belay devices, range of trad gear, sleeping bags, 2 and 3 man tents, backpacks, camping stoves and a Hilti drill (available only on special request).

Contact the Equipment Officer to make arrangements for hiring (details below).

Gear Availability is on a first come first serve basis. Club and tutelage usage of gear gets priority over private use.
Gear can only be hired for a maximum of two weeks during term (this changes during the vacs).
If you damage or lose any gear, you will be held responsible for the full cost of the equipment's replacement.
If you bring back the gear late, dirty or in an unsatisfactory condition you will either not be refunded your deposit and/or be prohibited from loaning gear in the future.

NOTE: Before people can take climbing gear out they must demonstrate their competence with the gear, for obvious safety reasons. Do not Worry if you do not know how to climb, climbing tutelage is provided by the mountain club every Tuesday night at Old Mutual Sports Hall.

Hiring Fees: R100 deposit + R20 per two week period (depending on amount of gear on loan this may be increased). Please check this is the current price!

(Deposit is refundable on return of the equipment in the SAME condition that it was received)
