Latest News: Read the latest of what's been happening in the club. If you have breaking news that needs to be here, send it to any of the committee. 13 August 2004: A successful club trip to Watervalboven happened during the long weekend 06-09 August with Tamryn, Kyle, Trent, Angus, Michelle, Niv, Scott, Karen, Western and Chris attending. The team spent many happy hours singing, drinking and generally carousing. Kyle’s rendition of “Hermaphrodite” was definitely the hit of the trip and many slurred cries of “ENCORE!” rang out from the mouths of our fellow climbers who shared the awesome facilities of “Roc and Rope” with us. The traditional pool tournament resulted in no clear winners despite some impressive posturing (and awful gloating dancing) by Trent and Scott, of course climbing chalk was used instead of the usual blue stuff associated with pool halls and other dens of ill repute. There was even a little time for a little climbing which all enjoyed (even Tamryn and Michelle). We will be back… 02 August 2004: Last weeks “Friday Club” was held at the Boneyard. No notable redpoints happened but Kyle and Kern learnt that it’s a good idea to take warm clothes to the crag. Yesterday saw excursions to the ‘Eroica” wall at the Canyon which now has new abseil anchors for the scramble. Trent, Chris and Angus made the trip to “train” for Boven. Meanwhile at Winston park, Dave and Scott both flashed an unknown 15 in their approach shoes. While Joe from Pmb also managed the climb. Dave went on to redpoint Lonely Wall (26) in fine style while Scott also managed a redpoint later in the day. Please note that there are no longer any cute furry creatures residing below the crag. More after the Boven trip… 26 July 2004: SASSU 2004 write-up posted on this site. “Read all about it” 25 July 2004: A well-attended climbing meet was held at the Wave Cave. Participants were Tammy, Angus, Trent, Kyle, Dave, Douard, Scott, Stephanie and photographer Des. Rain the night before meant that the humidity was high and the conditions when we arrived at the Cave were disappointingly “Schlorky”. Luckily the sun came out and a cool breeze made great improvements turning it into redpoint day. There were some super sends with Trent Burnett starting the ball rolling by sending the classic Sip and Fly (26) in good form. Next it was Tammy Vivien’s turn as she sent Rapture of the steep (23). All were impressed as Angus McFarlane sucked it up, stopped singing, and committed to sending Sip and Fly, he appeared to become one with the “thank god” jug. Dave, of course, found some wicked boulder problems in the bouldering cave next door. Just to show up the rest of us, Trent Burnett pointed Wild Sheep Chase (23) on his second go (he’d finished the route but been unable to clip the chains on his onsight attempt). Meanwhile, a despairing wail is heard from the very lip of the Cave as Scott plummets yet again from the last move of Riders on the Storm (30). As is customary, the day is rounded off with a Milk Stout quart from the Shebeen before moving on to Stokers to meet up with Chris, Brett, Glynnis and Dale, where things get festive… _____________________________________________________________________________
